Biography

Matthew (Matt) Abrams is a Senior Litigation Attorney at GGC, having joined the firm in 2024. Matt has over 20 years of civil litigation experience as both a Plaintiff’s and defense attorney and thus brings a valuable and unique perspective to every case.

Previously, Matt was a Partner at BCM Law in its Chicago office, worked as a Senior Litigator in a small plaintiff and workers’ compensation firm and ran his own Plaintiff’s firm for nearly 10 years. He started his legal career in 2001 after graduating from Chicago Kent College of Law. Early in his career, he represented insurance carriers in civil litigation with a focus on construction negligence and trucking litigation. Starting in 2008, he transitioned to the Plaintiff’s side where he represented Plaintiff and Petitioner’s alike in civil litigation and workers’ compensation cases. Working for himself and within small firm and large firm environments, Matt has gained vast trial and negotiation experience, winning millions of dollars in verdicts and settlements for his clients.

He appears regularly before the Circuit Courts, Federal Courts, and the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission.

Matt’s background also includes 10 years as the Director of an overnight camp where he ran all aspects of this camping business. Using his legal knowhow, Matt has spent the last 15 years as a consultant and legal adviser for the camping, hotel and resort recreation providers where he has assisted in opening new and current businesses and advised on a variety of legal, liability and risk management issues. His work has led him to work closely with recreation providers including overnight and day camps, outdoor adventure and experiential programs, hotels and resorts.

Outside of work, Matt enjoys spending time with his family, including his wife of 20+ years and three children. He is a sports fanatic, still playing basketball, golf, softball and hockey regularly, and he recently started up with pickleball. His other passion is University of Michigan and overnight camping with a focus on helping our youth develop into strong, independent young men and women.
